3. Elk, Deer, and moose: Each with its distinctive antlers and stately grace, these three are symbols of the West and a wonderful sight in this region. These majestic animals can be seen grazing in the valleys and fields throughout the region. Sometimes, they can take on other worldly looks when they’re in the shadows of an early-morning mist. 4. Wolverines: Known for their toughness and tenacity, wolverines are a rare and elusive species that call the rugged peaks of the Rocky Mountains home. These carnivorous mammals are also known for their incredible strength and endurance. Further, they often travel long distances across snow and ice in search of prey.
5. Birds of Prey: Northwest Montana is a haven for birds of prey, including bald eagles, ospreys, and great horned owls. Of course, visitors can watch these birds soar overhead, dive into lakes and rivers in search of fish. If you’re lucky, you can even spy on them nesting in trees and cliffs.
